Purpose of the job

The Instructional Designer is responsible for analysing training needs, designing learning solutions, and developing high-quality learning interventions that support business performance across Two Mountains. The role requires deep expertise in instructional design methodologies, digital learning development, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and effective facilitation. The Instructional Designer will ensure all learning content is modern, engaging, compliant, and aligned to Two Mountains’ service excellence standards, and sector best practice.

Key Outputs

Instructional Design & Content Development

  • Conduct Training Needs Analysis (TNA) using ADDIE or similar learning design models.
  • Design and develop learning materials such as eLearning modules, videos, job aids, guides, workbooks, assessments, and facilitator manuals.
  • Develop high-quality digital learning using Articulate 360 (Rise & Storyline) and other design tools.
  • Create SCORM-compliant content and upload, publish, and troubleshoot content on LMS platforms.
  • Ensure all learning interventions meet SA micro-insurance regulatory requirements (FAIS, TCF, POPIA, etc.).
  • Maintain brand consistency and instructional quality across all materials.

Learning Technology & LMS Administration

  • Manage and administer LMS courses, users, enrollments, and reporting.
  • Upload, test, optimise, and troubleshoot SCORM packages.
  • Monitor learner progress, generate reports, and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure LMS content structures align with organisational competency frameworks.
  • Support staff (email and non-email users) with LMS access and learning navigation.

Facilitation & Delivery

  • Facilitate blended and virtual learning sessions where required (Zoom, Teams, face-to-face).
  • Train employees, branch staff, and partners on new content or digital platforms.
  • Conduct onboarding sessions for new staff as part of induction programmes.

 Quality Assurance & Evaluation

  • Apply ADDIE evaluation principles (Kirkpatrick levels 1–3) to measure learning effectiveness.
  • Collect feedback, analyse results, and update learning materials where improvements are needed.
  • Conduct pilot testing of new courses and implement refinements.

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

  • Work closely with L&D Manager, HR, Operations, Branch Managers, and external partners.
  • Translate technical or operational content into learner-friendly material.
  • Provide L&D insights to support business goals, customer experience initiatives, and service recovery training.

Project Management

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage learning development projects end-to-end.
  • Meet development timelines and ensure efficient prioritisation of tasks.
  • Maintain version control, project documentation, and development schedules.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant qualifications in Training & Development, HR, Education, or related field.
  • National Diploma or Degree in: Education, Instructional Design, Multimedia Design, Learning & Development, Human Resources, or related field.
  • Additional certification in Instructional Design or eLearning Development is advantageous.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in instructional design or digital learning development.
  • Strong experience in Articulate 360 (Storyline, Rise) and SCORM standards.
  • Experience developing and managing content on an LMS (e.g., Moodle, D2L, Docebo, New Leaf, SAP Litmos, or similar).
  • Experience facilitating online or classroom training is essential.
  • Experience in micro-insurance, financial services, retail, or contact centre sector advantageous.

Technical Competencies

  • Articulate 360 – Storyline & Rise (expert level).
  • Microsoft Office Suite – Word, PowerPoint, Excel (advanced level).
  • LMS Systems – upload, test, administer SCORM packages.
  • Multimedia design exposure (graphic design, video editing) beneficial.
  • Understanding of SA regulatory frameworks impacting training.
  • Understanding of adult learning theory, ADDIE, SAM, and blended learning principles.
